Te Hōnonga a Iwi - Restoring Rosedale Park has been recognised for its community collaboration at The Kūmara Awards, announced earlier this month.
The project won the Mā te haukāinga hei tūāpapa ki te ao tūroa / It Takes a Village category, impressing the judges with the community spirit the restoration forges and the way it brings together science, passion, youth, innovation and a huge amount of goodwill to create an oasis.
North Harbour Hockey volunteer Sheryl Blythen, Rangitoto College student Madeline Bennett, a youth leader in animal pest management at the restoration, and Glenda Adams, from Settlers Lifestyle Village, collected the award on behalf of the Te Hōnonga a Iwi whānau.
Run by Placemaking Aotearoa, the Kūmara Awards are a celebration of projects that have made a positive difference to life in public places. This year, award presentations were held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, recognising placemaking initiatives and signaling that both big and small changes have the potential to uplift a place and the people in it.
