Meet Flick — our feathered kaitiaki

Updated: 7 hours ago

Anyone who’s spent time at the restoration will know Flick.

This curious little pīwakawaka has a habit of following our trappers and student volunteers as they move through the ngāhere — flitting close by, perching nearby, and often coming so close it feels like he’s part of the team. He never fails to make people smile.

But Flick is more than just a friendly presence. For many of us, he’s a gentle reminder of why this project matters — and of the importance of living in harmony with te taiao.

We like to think of him as a small but mighty kaitiaki of our ngāhere, welcoming us into his space as we work to restore it.

So it felt only right to turn Flick into a mascot for our mahi.

Working from this inspiration, our talented graphic designer Sam Weston has created three different versions of Flick — each capturing a slightly different personality and style.

Now we’d love your help to choose the one that will represent our work going forward.

Head over to our Facebook page and cast your vote by commenting 1, 2 or 3 on the post.

We can’t wait to see which version of Flick takes flight.
