Volunteers at Te Hōnonga a Iwi gathered at North Harbour Hockey earlier this month to hear updates about the restoration project and check out the new community garden.
The afternoon tea event was a chance to thank all our supporters for their contributions to the project over the past 12 months.
Project co-ordinator Nicky Shave shared that after three years under the leadership and management of North Harbour Hockey Association (NHHA), Te Hōnonga a Iwi is becoming a separate entity that can better support regenerative socio-ecological action across Albany’s Ō te Ha Basin.
She also introduced three of the officers who will head up the new incorporated society - Sheryl Blythen, Chair, Jody Gilfillan, Finance Officer and Matthew Wardle, Secretary, all of whom have a hockey connection.
The event was also an opportunity to outline some of the key workstreams for the next 12 months.
After some delicious home baking, the volunteers headed out into a hot February afternoon to look at the new community garden and hear about plans for its expansion in 2025.
