For IT services provider Command IT, supporting the Te Hōnonga a Iwi Restoring Rosedale Park project was an opportunity to help the community and continue its environmentally conscious practices.
Command IT not only assisted the project team to set up the website platform and email sending capability, Managing Director Michael Fowler also committed to funding the hosting costs of these digital communication tools. Without this support, we would have struggled to keep our project partners and volunteers up to date with what was happening at the site.
Command IT was introduced to the project by North Harbour Hockey, one of its valued clients.
Michael says his team is very aware the IT industry has a role to play in promoting sustainability.
“We have a lot of products that have relatively short life spans which have traditionally been thrown away once they have finished their useful life. Our view is that, where possible, these products should be either recycled or disposed of in an environmentally conscious way.
“Vendors such as HP have implemented many changes such as more efficient packaging and recycled parts, which have already been successful in reducing the impact on our environment.
“We have for many years now, been disposing of IT equipment in an environmentally conscious manner. We don’t have the means to e-waste or recycle, so we use accredited e-waste companies to take away any decommissioned hardware.
Command IT is categorised in the industry as a MSP (Managed Services Provider).
“We are probably best viewed as an IT department for businesses who don’t have an internal IT person and want their IT taken care of,” Michael says. “What that means is for a monthly fee, we provide a team of IT experts complete with a dedicated helpdesk, to maintain and manage your computers and systems.”
